Logo Sketches

Initial idea

- Lissajous Curve is very similar to "C"
- to merge with my initials (CHT)

Sketches

- the "C" itself seems to be fine, adding other elements seems to be too much
- repetitions of "C" might be more dynamic

Feedback:
- can continue with this idea
- make sure the colours vibrate!!
- a short introduction is necessary to explain how the Lissajous Curve is related to the promotional kit
- animated optical illusion not relevant as it involves manual action
- to make sure that poster has the 'wow' effect, showing the process of the curve evolving to something extremely complicated

Idea Generation 2

Life blueprint... as in inviting my future employer to be part of my life blueprint??
- please be part of my life blueprint

- complete my life blueprint

Feedback:
- having grid lines is relevant, but it doesn't portray the 'whole me'
- probably something that shows the struggle of breaking through is more suitable, eg. from formal grids to my own grids
- concerns: does it relate to my future plan? Will people feel insecure if they see the 'uncontrolled me'?

OR

- 'fill in the gap' concept
- filling the gap between 2 parties, eg. patient and doctor, graphic design and health care sector...

Logo Inspiration

Something sketchy on visible grid lines for my name/initials.

Idea Generation 1

About me
- I'm a task oriented person who tries to organise everything as much as I can because I feel that I need to and believe that I would be more productive that way.
- I make mind maps to organise my thoughts, I like to colour code, I make to do lists all the time.., in a way, systems, systems, systems.
- However, very importantly, these organisation methods might not work for me because at the end of the day, I don't like to be bounded with rules... it is like a dilemma of I need rules but I don't want to follow the rules...
- I'm a hands-on person, I like to experiment
- I strongly believe in sustainability and functionality and would like to apply it in my work and design.

Idea development
- I need something that can make things in order, some sort of system, eg. anything that helps to organise items, dates to remember, thoughts..., something to control myself and make me focus and get things done
- I could include tools that help people to organise as part of the promotional kit.

Important points to consider
- The overall feel is very rigid, if possible, to make it more lively, eg. hand written fonts, doodles

Searching Me...

Sadly and frankly, I'm uncertain of who am I and what will I be in future...
But for sure, I would like my designs/work to be as functional and sustainable as possible.

Being an ex-physiotherapist, I hope that someday, I can merge it with graphic design to do some good.
If not, at least to be in the health care graphic design field but not the commercial type, instead, more towards patient care and education.

So,
Plan A:
To work in a design studio after graduation for experience and exposure for 5 years, if possible, go straight to one that concentrates on health care graphic design.
** How well developed is this sub-field in Malaysia? Are there such design firms in Malaysia? Do I need to go overseas?

At the same time, to approach/volunteer in health care institutes/NGOs, to identify, later to propose design solutions for their problems, especially on medical professional-patient communication.
** How well is the acceptance of health care graphic design in Malaysia? (I also need to consider about the Malaysian health care bureaucracy system)
There is high chance that I need to keep my existing job and make this as an external project to survive.

Plan B
To further my studies in graphic design and try to collaborate with some medical learning institute to

research about effective communication between medical professionals, patients and carers
** This might be an easier way to get into the health care industry as it goes through a more formal process; support from the involved parties would be more concrete too.
Problem is, MONEY!!!

In any case, I need to start building up my portfolio which covers health care topics from now.

Side thoughts
1. To publish a book about Malaysian Paralympic athletes (photography base)
2. To produce handmade crafts for sale on a regular basis

SWOT analysis
S:
- experience in the health care field
- practical and rational
- not afraid and enjoys the process of experimenting and doing research

W:
- too ambitious??
- being too practical and sometimes, rigid
- unclear personal style
- poor time management and organising skills
- low EQ

O:
- Malaysian health care graphic design is still not very developed

T:
- the acceptance of graphic design in the health care field
- money

A discussion with my lecturer...
- I'm quite a task-oriented person
- I would like to publish a book about incontinence and pelvic floor muscle to educate the public about this common but least discussed topic

Research on Designer's Self Promotional Kit

Of all the references I've found, these are a few which I find them interesting and might apply in my own promotional kit.

Tien-Min Liao

- a folded poster: functional and practical
- shows the personality of the designer: precise and organised, and has a different perspective in viewing things
- art direction: photography, which is something I am interested in

- "Let Me Grow with You" and "Help Is On The Way", respectively: cleverly uses phrases where its concept expands throughout the whole promotional kit
- eye catching presentation form and content (growing tray with seeds and a first aid kit), which again, is relevant to the whole concept

** it is important to consider about sustainability, in these cases, all containers and items could probably be put into use (in other words, not to come out with a special form of presentation just the sake of grabbing attention but without function)

- I like the idea of using a tote bag to hold all items, very sustainable
- promotional items are not too bulky

Points to keep in mind:
1. personality
2. consistency and relevance in concept
3. functionality and sustainability (information presentation, promotional item choice and storage)
